Cases of suffocation due to chlorine inhalation in Deir Ezzor countryside
Local sources confirmed that a number of residents of the town of Al-Shuhail in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, which is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces "SDF", suffered from suffocation.
According to the sources, about 6 people, in the Hawi Al-Majd area near Al-Shuhail cemetery, suffered severe suffocation, as they were transferred to a health center in the area to receive first aid.
For their part, medical sources said that the reason behind the cases of suffocation is that they inhaled gas emitted from an old chlorine cylinder located in one of the irrigation and sewage canals.
She pointed out that the gases were emitted from the cylinder as a result of the erosion of parts of it, which caused the recording of cases of suffocation among civilians in the area, stressing that workers from the municipality and a staff from the "Surgical Hospital" in Al-Shuhail removed the cylinder and transferred it to one of the municipality's departments.
The sources pointed out that it was not yet known why the cylinder was in the irrigation canal, and if it had been placed by an active act.
It is noteworthy that the areas under the control of the SDF are suffering from an accelerating spread of cholera in the countryside of Deir Ezzor and the surrounding areas, due to water pollution.
