Cautious calm in the besieged neighborhoods of Daraa hours before the end of the ceasefire truce

A state of cautious calm prevailed in the besieged neighborhoods of Daraa, hours before the end of the period specified for the cease-fire, which is scheduled until ten o'clock this morning.

A spokesman for Daraa Negotiating Committee, Adnan al-Masalma, said that an agreement was reached with the Russian delegation and the regime, stipulating a ceasefire until ten o'clock this morning, Monday, pending a new round of negotiations on the terms of the September 1 agreement between the central government on the one hand and the regime and Russia on the other.

In statements to "Ahrar Houran Gathering" website, Al-Masalmeh denied reaching a final agreement with the active parties, pointing out that new discussions will be held today to discuss the terms of the agreement announced on September 1.

Al-Masalmeh stressed that the encouraging motive for the return to negotiations is the pledge of Russian Deputy Defense Minister Andrei Kartapolov to lift the security cordon off the besieged neighborhoods, and withdraw military reinforcements from their surroundings, as soon as the security points are deployed.

And yesterday, Sunday, according to the Syrian opposition TV, a number of civilians were killed and wounded, after the renewed artillery shelling on the besieged neighborhoods in the city of Daraa, despite the ceasefire at the request of Russia from the Assad regime forces.

Local sources told Syria TV that 3 civilians were killed and several others wounded due to the bombing by the Assad regime forces and Iranian militias.

The sources added that the "Fourth Division" did not accept the truce requested by Russia, so that the people of Daraa al-Balad would respond to the conditions of Al-Assad regime.

The agreement signed with Al-Assad regime forces on 1 September stipulated the establishment of military points inside the besieged neighborhoods, the delivery of weapons, the displacement of those who rejected the agreement, and the settlement of the situation of dissidents and fighters.
