The Director-General of Ibn Rushd Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases and Addiction, Dr. Gandhi Farah, revealed that the phenomenon of drug addiction has increased dramatically in Syria.

According to a statement by "Farah" to "Al-Watan newspaper" loyal to the Assad regime, the phenomenon of drug addiction has increased dramatically among young ages, and that addiction among young people and adolescents has negatives that persist for a long period of time.

Farah attributed the spread of addiction among different age groups, due to the spread of a general state of tension and anxiety among people, in addition to the economic pressures experienced by Syrians and the state of depression that they cause, which drives some to addiction.

And he indicated that the percentage of addicts increased between 2021 and 2022 more among males than females, but he clarified that there is no statistic that determines the number of addicts.

It is worth noting that the loyal newspaper "Al-Watan" confirmed that the Assad regime-controlled areas are witnessing a proliferation of narcotics, such as hashish and Captagon, at cheap prices, and explained that the price of a "tramadol" pill is 3,500 Syrian pounds, while the price of the entire envelope of this substance is 20 thousand pounds.
