Kurdish source SDF is under pressure from Russia to hand over the areas it controls to the Assad regime

Informed Kurdish sources revealed that the militias of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are under great pressure from the Russian side, with the aim of handing over the areas under its control to the Assad regime, stressing that the US side is an obstacle to this scenario.

And Basnyor website reported, quoting a Kurdish source close to the SDF militia, that Russia, under pressure from Turkey, is trying to force the SDF to hand over the executive authority in the SDF-controlled areas to the Assad regime, but the US side rejects this scenario, which constitutes an obstacle towards achieve this.

He explained that there are major differences between Russia and the SDF militias regarding the recent agreement, which took place during the Tehran summit between Turkey, Iran and Russia on handing over the border areas under SDF control to the Assad regime unconditionally or making any concessions by the Assad regime.

He pointed out that the US side refuses to hand over the areas controlled by the SDF militias to the Assad regime, and also gave assurances to the SDF leadership in this regard.

He indicated that the SDF asked Russia and the Assad regime to reach an agreement on the fate of the areas it controls, but the Assad regime rejects that matter and insists on handing over the area to it unconditionally or making concessions.

It is worth noting that the co-chair of the Kurdistan Community System KCK, which is the organizational umbrella for all institutions and organizations affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), called “Jamil Bayik,” said in a statement last Saturday that “the rapprochement between Turkey and the Assad regime aims primarily to end Western Kurdistan by spreading Assad regime forces in the region.
