A sudden attack by unknown persons leaves dead and wounded Revolutionary Guards near Palmyra

The sites of Iranian militias affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards near "Al-Sawwana" field, southwest of Palmyra, in Homs countryside, were attacked by unknown assailants at dawn today, Friday.
"Ain al-Furat" network said that unknown persons believed to be affiliated with ISIS attacked at dawn on Friday the Revolutionary Guards' positions in the vicinity of al-Sawwana field, killing 5 members and wounding 8 others.
It indicated that the militias transferred their dead and wounded to Palmyra Military Hospital, while some critical injuries were transferred to the capital, Damascus, suggesting that the death toll would increase.
The network added that the attack began with rocket-propelled grenades targeting Iranian militia points, then used heavy machine guns and car-mounted cannons.
The sources pointed out that the Russian planes arrived late in the area, where they carried out several raids on sites in the vicinity of Al-Sawwana field, in which there are suspected members of ISIS.
It is noteworthy that ISIS took the Syrian desert as a base for its operations, with its remnants beginning to fortify there in late 2017, until early 2019, when it lost its last stronghold in Al-Baghouz town in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.\R
