Death of a firefighter and injury civilians in a fire in Medhat Pasha market in Damascus

A firefighter was killed and civilians were injured,due to a large-scale fire that broke out today, Wednesday, in a fabric warehouse, in “Al-Hariqa” area in Damascus.

According to the regime news agency, SANA, a fire broke out today in a fabric warehouse in Zkak Al-Mahkamah market in Al-Hariqa area, next to Medhat Pasha market.

It added that the fire spread to a number of shops built of flammable wood , which caused death a member of Damascus Fire Brigade, in addition to injury two civilians.

For his part, Brigadier General "Ahmed Abbas", director of the regime's civil defense regiment, said that the firefighters and more than five fire engines were able to put out the fire.

He pointed out that the fire "caused the death of firefighter Hussein Al-Mohammed, suffocation of civilians, the burning of six shops completely, and the collapse of other shops, stressing that the nature of the place and the narrow alleys, impeded the arrival of firefighters quickly."

It is noteworthy that a person died and others suffered burns and suffocation, on Sunday evening, after a fire broke out in “Pearl of the Orient” Hotel in As-Sayeda Zainab city, south of Damascus, which were inside it a number of Bahraini citizens.
