Pedersen describes his talks in Damascus as very positive

The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, confirmed that the talks he held with the regime's Foreign Minister, Faisal Miqdad, were very positive.

"I had very successful talks on everything related to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, and I think it is fair to say that during these talks we touched on all the challenges facing Syria," Pedersen said.

He added, "We spent some time to talk about the situation on the ground in various Syrian regions, and we also discussed the economic and humanitarian challenges related to the livelihood of Syrians, and how we can improve the general situation."

The Special Envoy continued, "We linked the talks with the approach it presented under the title "step for step", and certainly the Constitutional Committee, and how we can make progress."

He pointed out that he will meet with the head of the regime's delegation in the Constitutional Committee, Ahmed al-Kuzbari, saying: "Based on the talks I had today, and which I will have in the afternoon, we can say that we agree on the basic items for the next round of the Constitutional Committee."

It is noteworthy that Russia said earlier that it was in contact with the delegations of the opposition and the regime to start a new round of meetings of the Constitutional Committee.
