Newspaper: War rich people are competing to support Bashar al-Assad

A report by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed that the "wealthy of war" in Syria are competing to announce support for the president of the regime, Bashar al-Assad, in the presidential elections in which the voting of expatriates began today, which is scheduled in Syria on the 26th of this month.

The newspaper quoted sources as saying that "reading the names of the supporters of the election campaign of Al-Assad shows the new map of Syria after the war, most of them are militia leaders, war rich people, and families that rose during the war, and on the other hand, the presence of the private companies that had previously supported Al-Assad in the second and third states decreased."

They pointed out that the election campaign illustrates the new shadow economy balances, as the war rich and regional leaders competed to show support and loyalty that is, in fact, anchoring their leadership over their regions, especially since some of them have become people of solution and connection, in the sense of taking royalties to resolve disputes between stakeholders and the authorities and security agencies.
