Security official: More than 1,600 Moroccan fighters fought with ISIS in Syria and Iraq

A Moroccan security official announced that more than 1,659 Moroccan fighters fought with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
The source added that 225 of them have previous history in the context of terrorism cases, Mohamed Nifawi, the general supervisor of the "Central Office for Judicial Research of Moroccan Internal Intelligence," said: "The number of returning from trouble spots reached 270 people, of whom 137 were dealt with at the central office level."
He pointed out that more than 745 fighters were killed in the two countries, most of them by carrying out suicide attacks.
He noted that the Moroccan women who joined the Islamic organizations in Syria and Iraq, their number reached about 288; 99 of them returned to Morocco, while the number of children reached 391, of whom only 82 returned.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations confirmed the presence of more than 40 thousand foreign fighters who came from 110 countries who entered Syria and Iraq to join terrorist groups.
