The coordinator of the Department of Refugee Affairs in the Syrian National Coalition, "Adnan Rahmoun," announced that the recent report of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Syria reveals the danger of any country hosting Syrian refugees being forcibly returned.
Rahmon added that the report confirmed the escalation of violence against civilians, and that Syria is not suitable for the safe and dignified return of refugees and displaced persons.
He pointed out that war crimes, crimes against humanity and violations of the basic human rights of Syrians are still continuing, which makes it difficult for Syrians to find security and a safe haven, in addition to the continuation of incidents of arbitrary arrest by the regime and the torture that it includes, leading to death in many cases.
For his part, Commissioner Hani Megally, a member of the International Commission of Inquiry, said that the last months witnessed returning the siege and siege-like tactics in the governorates of Daraa and Al-Quneitra, in a shocking manner, and the tragedy has begun to unfold before our eyes in Daraa al-Balad.
Rahmon stressed the importance of these reports in supporting the accountability process for the criminal regime in the future, stressing that the return of refugees to Syria is still very difficult and dangerous in light of the ongoing crimes by the regime and its supporters.
Rahmoun pointed out that UNHCR must assume its responsibility in applying international standards to ensure the security and protection of refugees until the time for safe and voluntary return comes.
